Scholarly Communications Guide for Faculty: CUNY Academic Works

Resources to help you with writing and publishing your scholarship

CUNY's Institutional Repository

CUNY Academic Works is part of a CUNY-wide effort to collect and provide access to research, scholarship and creative work of each CUNY school.

In service to CUNY’s mission as a public university, content in Academic Works is freely available to all. Included works are selected and deposited by the individual campus in consultation with the Office of Library Services. Content includes

  • faculty research such as articles and conference presentations
  • open educational resources for teaching and learning
  • scholarly journals published by or associated with CUNY
  • digitized archival documents from CUNY’s libraries and special collections.

Submitting Your Work

Faculty can create an account and start uploading their work directly to Academic Works, or they can email the campus liaisons Ann Matsuuchi (amatsuuchi@lagcc.cuny.edu) or Liz Jardine (ejardine@lagcc.cuny.edu) for assistance or to get more information.

For more information, you can also consult the CUNY Academic Works guide.

To find details of journal publishers’ self-archiving policies, faculty may check their publishers’ contract or search SHERPA/RoMEO.

Benefits of Submitting to Academic Works

  • Increase the impact of your work, which will be easily found via search engines such as Google and Google Scholar as well as CUNY Libraries’ OneSearch

  • Receive monthly emails telling you how often your work has been downloaded

  • Preserve and share your work in a single place as it's given a persistent URL to ensure long-term access

  • Share your work with students and scholars around the world who can’t otherwise access it

  • Promote collaboration with colleagues at other CUNY campuses
