Personal Preservation Tips: About

An overview of basic storage best practices to help with preserving personal photographs, papers and digital files.

What do I do with all this stuff?

Most people have something that tells the story of their family's, whether in an dedicated photo album, or (most likely) through photographs, letters and other papers scattered in different rooms and buildings.

Here's a guide to help students, staff and faculty with any "what do I do with this" questions when coming across photographs, letters, papers and other documents they might have stored in drawers or boxes in a closet.  It'll help keep your materials safe for future generations and will let you share these things with other family members easily.

This guide will go over how to store photographs and letters,  ways to scan your documents, tips for managing your digital files, as well as ways to share documents with other family members and local archives and museums that might be interested in your story.

If you have materials that relate specially to LaGuardia Community College, please consider contacting us here in the Institutional Archives.  We are always looking for new materials and would happily take materials that would give more depth to the College's history. Contact Thomas Cleary (tcleary@lagcc.cuny.edu, 718-482-5434), the College Archivist, for more information about this.
