Fall 2025 CTL Seminar Medial Literacy Skills in the Digital Age: About

Description: This seminar is for faculty who do not teach media literacy but would like to equip their students with skills to navigate complex digital world and cut through fake news and information chaos. In addition to a brief intro to current literature on misinformation's impact on democracy, participants will explore pedagogical approaches that work across disciplines to foster media literacy. They will develop activities and assignments that can be seamlessly integrated into their courses to help students struggling with information overload and inundated by fake news assess the credibility of information sources, make fact-based decisions, and become critical consumers of media messages.

Dates: Fridays 1 to 4pm, in person on 9/12, 10/10, 11/7 and 12/5

CTL seminar participants are expected to:

• Identify a course or a professional practice involving student interaction that will serve as a space in which they explore the application of seminar goals to their teaching or professional practice.  While the topic of the seminar is a motivation to join the seminar, the ultimate goal of all CTL seminars is advancing or strengthening one’s pedagogy or professional interactions with students.
• Implement a practice or project developed in the seminar within that specific course or student interaction.
