Issues in CQ Researcher database
Contains reports on numerous issuesthat have been in the news arranged in 26 areas. Each report explains and deconstructs an issue and contains an introduction, overview, background, current situation, pro/con answers to a question, short features, bibliography, etc.
Issues in Opposing Viewpoints database
Provides a list of over 450 topics any one of which is suitable for an informative speech. The topics in this database form discrete information units containing topic overviews, academic articles, newspaper articles, statistics, viewpoints, Web sites, etc.

Great for getting an basic understanding of topics and issues. These academic level articles are a very good source for vocabulary, terminology and search words for the topic being investigated. Contains concise, easy to understand articles from over 2100 subject specific encyclopedias. Most articles have bibliographies for other sources on the subject.
